Awliscombe School is a Healthy School
- and that's official!
We have been awarded the DEVON HEALTHY SCHOOL AWARD
The Healthy Schools initiative is a national award, supported by Devon Education in this area. To acheive this standard our school has undertaken to promote healthy lifestyles with our children. We have reviewed our practices in school and have been judged by external verifiers to be providing the education and support that our children need to understand how to live out a healthly lifestyle. We believe that ahealthy school is one that is successful in helping pupils to do their best and build on their achievements.
Our school promotes physical and emotional health by providing accessible and relevant information and equipping pupils with the skills and attitudes to make informed decisions about their health. We understand the importance of investing in health to assist in the process of raising levels of pupil achievement and improving standards. We also recognise the need to provide both a physical and social environment that is conducive to learning.
We are committed to ongoing improvement and development in this area and in March 2010 we were delighted that we have been awarded the:
PEDPASS (PE, Daily Physical Activity and School Sport) AWARD
To be awarded this we have evidenced that:
all children's and young people's experiences of physical education, physical activity and sport are enjoyable and meaningful, and contribute to their personal development, health and well being.
We actively encourage high standards in PE DPA and SS, through developing exemplary practice in learning and teaching, effective leadership and management and expert advice and support at county and local level.
The programme aims to develop and produce, through enjoyable PEDPASS, active, energetic, confident, self motivated, and successful individuals who are committed to achieving lifelong fitness, health and wellbeing; empowering them to become positive and productive members of their school and local community.
We believe that regular commitment to exercise will provide further help for our children to become successful learners, confident individuals and responsible citizens.
Well done and thank you to all our staff, parents and children for the hard work and preparation that contributed to these achievements.
